Faith Formation: Children & Youth Ministry

Sunday SchoolIt has been said that children are born with faith. As an ordained minister with nearly 40 years experience in educational ministries, I believe that it is our responsibility to encourage and support the process of faith development as children grow and mature into youth and adulthood.

Our programs are designed to allow children and youth to encounter and wonder about God's story in an active learning environment, and in the life stories of the people they meet and relate to in our community of faith and the world.

As valued members of our congregation, the children and youth give expression to their faith in worship, service projects, art, music and play.

All are welcome to join us on this incredible journey of faith.

~ Cathy Hopkins, Faith Formation Director

Recommended Books

Explore the BCUCC children's booklist of fabulous children's books (ages 4-8) that reflect and teach the beliefs and points of view of our church. We will be adding book lists for older children too.

Nursery

Our fully outfitted and staffed nursery provides quality care for children three years of age or younger, including story time, crafts and games. Parents are encouraged to visit.

Activities, Events and Special Programs

Each year, many special events and activities are designed around the interests of our younger members – holiday Craft Days, an Octoberfest celebration, Santa’s visit, Palm Sunday participation, Easter Service and egg hunt, trips to local tide pools, Apple Pie Day in the mountains, Movie Nights, and much more.

Supported by parents who help them practice and rehearse, the children frequently perform special music recitals and plays. These events are always rewarding for the children, their families, and the congregation.

Our young members are also encouraged to be a part of the life of the church by participating in portions of the worship service, helping with refreshment hour, and decorating for special events.
